Another season is just around the corner! What will 2016 bring? some say a busy season with the dollar the way it is and others are worried about the weather being quite warm for this time of year as most of the lakes have come free of ice. What does that mean for southern Alberta? More water body closures due to low water and high temperature conditions? Only time will tell. None the less, our reels are lubed and flies are tied!
We have been seeing some early hatches down here and the trout are hungry. Various midges. bead head nymphs.
Forcast is looking warm for the next couple weeks with a few scattered showers. Please check the local regulations for any information about the water body you would like to fish.
Ever wanted to catch majestic golden Trout? Give us a call this summer and inquire about one of our guided hikes services we offer to the remote rocky lakes. Friends and family welcome!

Our river systems couldn't look any better. Every place we visit in southern Alberta looks fantastic, whether it be the mountains or prairies. The mild rain we've been having has hardly had any effect on the rivers, they are clear and easily wadable. Fishing has been productive in the cooler conditions. Dry flies and a variety of nymph patterns have been effective. Heres a few pictures from the year so far.
Welcome to a new year and new fishing season beggining on April 1st. Looks like the end of winter will hopefully be mild and lead to a productive fishing season. There seem to be a few midge hatches going on around SW Alberta and the open rivers are now clear of ice and low water conditions. If you are heading out be sure to check the regulations to see what rivers are open until the rest of the season opens up on June 16th.

Yet another rough opening week for Southern Alberta rivers. Due to high rainfall the rivers are very high and dirty. Some area's seen over 250mm of rainfall. Although, over the past few days we have seen a dramatic drop in flow rates and the river could quite possibly return to normal within the next couple of weeks. Water levels on all of the rivers and streams in southern Alberta are receding and are beginning to clear in their headwaters. It is a great time to be hitting your favorite lakes while the rivers are calming down.
Our annual Rainy Ridge hike will be pushed back. We will have a date set soon, as accessibility is an issue from the rain.

It has been a productive early spring, conditions have been about average for this time of year. Lakes are starting to open up across the province, with the fish starting to find their appetite.
Police Lake - 60% open as of April 13. Fishing "ok", Princes, Leech patterns, and chronomids effective.
Oldman River systems - Normal range, clear. "Boulder run" area of Oldman was a bit fast.
Crowsnest - 4 - 5 m3/s Dirty due to Lyons ice jam. Good midge hatch happening.
20" Cutthroat from "Summerview" bridge of oldman from April 12th. Caught on #6 purple/white marabou leech.

Rainy Ridge was a blast! Each of us catching over ten golden trout each. Words can't explain the profound beauty in one of the rarest species of trout in the World, so we've added some pictures in the "pictures" section of the site. We would also like to thank Jeff for making the trip out from Ontario in search of Cutthroats in the Castle area. On another note; T-shirts and other wear will be added to the store section soon.

It was a beautiful opening day on the rivers. Flows are still a touch high but doesnt mean the fish aren't hungry. The Castle river was at one of its faster paces, along with the Livingston. A small hatch of various may flies was taking place, along with many mosquitos... Be sure to take a look at the fishing reports for more detailed reports on the rivers. As it is our first year in operation, our video's and blogs are still in development, please bare with us as it takes time! We have been catching some amazing footage and will post ASAP. As for booking this year, we are filling up fast for many "Rainy lakes guides" but still have availability.

The time has come again in Southern Alberta for the belly boats, waders, and your best game to come out of storage. So put those ice augers, jigs, snow boots away, and go hit one of our beautiful lakes! April 1st is opening day for most lakes, while we wait for the mountainous lakes and rivers to open up on June 16th. Have you checked the new regs out?! We suggest you do so as there are some big changes in the 2013 season. Dont forget to pick your new license up, be sure to check the "Events" section to see where we will be and we will see you out on the water!
